The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has crossed the 600,000-investor mark for the first time in its history, with the total number of investors reaching 607,025 in July 2026, according to Advisor to the Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad.
July also recorded the second-highest monthly increase in PSX investor accounts, as 23,973 new investors entered the market during the month.
The latest figures highlight a major expansion in retail participation in Pakistan’s capital market, particularly among Generation Z and first-time investors.
The PSX investor base has expanded by more than 332,000 investors since June 2022, when approximately 275,000 investors were registered. This represents a growth of 121% over the period.
The pace of new investor registrations has also accelerated considerably in recent years. Average monthly additions stood at around 2,300 during FY23 and FY24, before increasing to approximately 5,300 in FY25.
The momentum strengthened further in FY26, when average monthly additions climbed to around 15,860 investors, marking the strongest growth in PSX history.
The latest increase is being driven significantly by Gen Z and first-time retail investors, indicating a shift in how younger Pakistanis are approaching savings and investments.
The growing participation of individual investors comes as digital access to financial services and investment platforms continues to expand, making it easier for new investors to participate in the stock market.
According to the finance ministry’s assessment, the expanding investor base represents a structural changed in investor behaviour, with more Pakistanis seeking opportunities to invest and build wealth through the capital markets.
The sharp increase in participation also reflects growing interest in Pakistan’s equity market and could contribute to deeper capital markets by increasing the number of individual investors and broadening market participation.
