The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), has conducted two successful raids against illegal internet service providers (ISPs) operating without valid licenses in Gujrat district.
According to a PTA press release issued on Friday, the raids were carried out by the PTA Zonal Office Lahore with the assistance of the FIA Corporate Crime Circle (CCC) Gujrat.
The first raid targeted an operational setup at Habib Plaza, Karianwala, where internet services were being provided through fiber optic and point-to-point (P2P) links without a valid PTA license. During the operation, one suspect was arrested and several devices were seized, including a MikroTik cloud switch router, three Optical Line Terminals (OLTs), four GPON ONUs, and a Radius server.
The second raid was conducted at Prime Communication on Main GT Road, Sarai Alamgir, where another individual was arrested. Authorities confiscated two network switches (Cisco and Grandstream), five OLTs, four GPON ONUs, a Radius server, and an invoice slip.
PTA said the operations were part of its ongoing campaign to curb unauthorized internet services and enforce the country’s telecom licensing regulations.
The authority added that action against illegal operators is essential to prevent financial losses to the national exchequer and ensure a fair and regulated telecommunications sector.
PTA also advised consumers to obtain telecom and internet services only from PTA-licensed operators to avoid unexpected service disruptions. The list of licensed operators is available on the PTA’s official website.
