Punjab traffic police have intensified action against drivers using illegal flasher and high-intensity discharge (HID) lights, with more than 17,000 challans issued across the province so far this year.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazir has directed traffic officials to take strict action against vehicles fitted with prohibited and excessively bright lights, citing road safety concerns.
According to a traffic police spokesperson, accident analysis has identified flasher and HID lights as a significant safety risk. Extremely bright headlights and high beams can reduce the visibility of drivers approaching from the opposite direction, potentially increasing the risk of road accidents.
Traffic police are already conducting enforcement operations across Punjab against substandard and high-intensity lights. More than 17,000 challan tickets have been issued this year to drivers found using prohibited lighting systems.
In Lahore, traffic police have fined more than 5,000 drivers for using illegal flasher and HID lights.
DIG Waqas Nazir stated that the use of flasher and HID lights is prohibited on all vehicles and instructed officials to ensure strict enforcement. The crackdown aims to discourage the use of excessively bright lights and improve road safety for motorists across the province.
