Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to complete the Faisalabad and Gujranwala Yellow Line Mass Transit projects by March 2027.
She issued the directives while chairing a special meeting in Lahore to review progress on both projects. The chief minister instructed officials to work in three shifts to ensure the schemes are completed within the announced deadline.
The progress of the construction work was also reviewed through drone footage during the meeting.
Officials briefed the meeting that the 31.5-kilometer Gujranwala Yellow Line project will feature 25 stations, including two underground stations.
The project will also include 12 underpasses, a 35-kilometer service road and signal-free U-turns.
Around one-third of the project has been completed so far, while 1,233 poles and 552 transformers have been installed.
Work on the project’s 62-kilometer drainage system is also around 40 percent complete.
Authorities further informed the meeting that 15,000 feet of sewerage lines, 12,000 feet of water supply lines and 11,000 feet of gas pipelines will be laid as part of the project.
Progress on the Faisalabad Mass Transit System was also reviewed during the meeting.
Officials said 1,835 trees have been replanted as part of the project. In addition, 15 kilometers of gas pipelines have been laid and 12 bus stops have been constructed.
The provincial government is pushing to accelerate construction activities to ensure the Faisalabad project is also completed by March 2027.
Maryam Nawaz directed the relevant departments and contractors to increase the pace of work and ensure that construction remains on schedule.
She said the government was aware of the difficulties faced by ordinary citizens and stressed that the projects should be completed within the assigned deadline.
The Punjab government expects the mass transit projects to improve public transportation and provide better commuting facilities for residents of Faisalabad and Gujranwala.
