The federal government has removed the five-year age restriction on the commercial import of used vehicles, effective July 1, 2026, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
The ministry conveyed the decision to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) through an office memorandum dated October 30, 2026, following a request for clarification on whether the restriction remained applicable after June 30.
Previously, commercial imports of used vehicles under PCT headings 8702, 8703, 8704, and 8711 were limited to vehicles not older than five years. The imports were also required to meet environmental and safety standards prescribed by the Ministry of Industries and Production and the Engineering Development Board (EDB).
The ministry clarified that the age limit had been removed under a decision approved by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and the Federal Cabinet. However, importers must continue to comply with other applicable import policy requirements and prescribed standards.
The development comes as used vehicle imports continue to increase in Pakistan. Government sources reported that 2,276 used vehicles were imported in September 2026, compared with just 48 in May. The government had also introduced an additional 40% duty on commercial used vehicle imports, which is scheduled to decrease by 10 percentage points annually until FY2030.
