Balochistan’s provincial government has formally given approval of the Quetta Safe City Project.
After being in a lot of limbo, the work on Quetta Safe City Project is finally being commissioned after the Provincial Government of Balochistan officially approved the project, setting aside the required grant needed for its completion.
The resolution for the said project was moved in by a few members from the opposition which almost instantly saw its adoption as no resistance was witnessed.
While addressing to the session, the Provincial Minister of Information Technology for Balochistan told the assembly that the Quetta Safe City Project (QSCP) is expected to consume a grant of PKR 2.28 billion and that it would soon be completed. The IT Minister further mentioned that a plan of developing an IT village in Quetta was also in works. The minister mentioned that the government is allocating a budget of PKR 500 million solely for the development of this village.
The government also revealed its plans to expand these Safe City Projects to other cities of the province too. Safe City Projects takes into account comprehensive infrastructure development to tackle the menace of street crimes and/or other terrorist activities. A whole lot of cameras are strategically installed across the city and technology being used to thwart threats to national security. In the Safe City Lahore Project, 8,000 cameras have been installed for this purpose.
Technologies like anti-terror monitoring, integrated emergency reporting through modern communication systems are put in place to increase the reliability of policing.
