Construction work has officially begun on three new underpasses along Peshawar Road in Rawalpindi at an estimated cost of Rs. 8.359 billion, following the completion of the Kutchery Chowk infrastructure project.
According to official sources, the underpasses will be constructed at Qasim Market Chowk, Qabristan Chowk, and Charing Cross Chowk. The Qasim Market underpass is estimated to cost Rs. 3.091 billion, while the Qabristan Chowk and Charing Cross Chowk projects are projected at Rs. 2.679 billion and Rs. 2.588 billion respectively.
Authorities said that more than 80 percent of utility relocation work has already been completed, while temporary alternative routes are also being developed to manage traffic flow during construction.
Officials added that the three underpasses are expected to be completed within approximately three months.
The project follows the completion of the Kutchery Chowk development, which has been renamed Marka-e-Haq Square and was finalized at a revised cost of nearly Rs. 19 billion, up from the original estimate of Rs. 13.334 billion.
Separately, a proposal is also under consideration for the construction of a flyover at Ammar Shaheed Chowk, with an estimated cost of Rs. 3.45 billion, sources said.
