The district administration has launched a joint crackdown against public transport vehicles operating without fire extinguishers, carrying multiple large gas cylinders, or lacking emergency exits in violation of safety regulations.
The enforcement campaign is being carried out by the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Traffic Police, and Civil Defence to improve passenger safety and ensure compliance with transport safety standards.
During the latest operation, authorities impounded 31 public transport vehicles and issued challans to 27 others for safety violations. Magistrates also imposed cumulative fines of Rs. 510,000 on operators found in breach of the regulations.
Inspection teams conducted checks at key locations, including GT Road, Adiala Road, Chakri Road, Murree Expressway, and Rawat Chowk, targeting vehicles that failed to meet mandatory safety requirements.
Following the operation, the RTA Secretary directed transport inspectors to conduct daily field inspections and ensure that all public transport vehicles are equipped with functional fire extinguishers, emergency exits, and other required safety equipment.
Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir said the administration considers passenger safety its top priority and warned that strict legal action would continue against transport operators violating safety regulations.
The renewed enforcement drive comes after a recent transport vehicle fire incident in Murree, prompting authorities to tighten safety inspections and prevent similar accidents in the future.
