Nishtar Colony police have arrested an online rickshaw driver, Latif, for uploading a mobile number of female passenger to a matchmaking app to settle a score after a dispute during a ride.
The woman began receiving continuous calls from unknown men shortly after her number appeared on the app. She had argued with the driver during the trip, and police say the number was posted in retaliation.
She reported the matter at the open court of the DIG Operations. A police inquiry established that Latif was responsible for uploading her number, after which a case was registered against him at Nishtar Colony police station. He was arrested soon after.
A spokesperson for the DIG Operations said harassment of women and misuse of personal information would not be tolerated. He added that police are acting promptly on complaints of citizens and conducting investigations strictly on merit.
Officials also said the dignity, safety and privacy of women are a collective responsibility.
