The November 19 release date for Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6 is rapidly approaching. Interestingly, Rockstar Games just updated the GTA 6 website with its official ESRB rating. The title will likely become one of the biggest video game releases in history. Furthermore, it will likely demolish sales records. The game should also retain a massive player base for many years after its initial release.
Official GTA 6 ESRB Rating Revealed
Recently, Rockstar Games issued a new website update. The developer officially added the ESRB rating for Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6. As expected, the game earned an M for Mature rating. Specifically, the ESRB assigned this rating due to several mature elements. These elements include Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol.
Currently, hype for the game has reached a fever pitch. Interestingly, Rockstar achieved this despite showing relatively little of the game before launch. Previously, Netflix hosted a GTA 6 Extended Look. This showcase finally gave fans a proper look at gameplay. Before that, Rockstar only released a collection of screenshots and trailers. As a result, much of the game remains shrouded in mystery.
The “In-Game Purchases” Mystery
Notably, the official ESRB rating also lists “In-Game Purchases”. However, Rockstar previously denied the inclusion of microtransactions. Typically, the ESRB uses this exact phrase to indicate standard microtransactions. Therefore, this label likely points to a different type of purchase. For instance, it might refer to content paywalled behind the $100 Deluxe Edition. The base game offers the vast majority of the experience. Yet, the Deluxe Edition completely restricts access to certain shops and other items for non-buyers.
Alternatively, the rating could reference future microtransactions planned for the inevitable GTA 6 online mode. Rockstar has not properly unveiled this multiplayer mode yet. However, current predictions suggest it will launch in 2027. Given the dizzying success of GTA 5’s online component, a new online mode remains an absolute guarantee. Consequently, fans should prepare for the potential microtransactions tied to that mode.
Fans eagerly await additional reveals before the November 19 launch. Rockstar might choose to remain completely quiet. Conversely, the developer could treat fans to another trailer or gameplay showcase. For now, players must simply mark their calendars. They will continue counting down the days until the game finally releases to the masses.
