Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) increased by $17 million during the week ended August 20, 2026, according to the latest data released by the central bank.
SBP reserves rose to $17.099 billion, compared with $17.082 billion recorded a week earlier.
The country’s total liquid foreign exchange reserves stood at $22.587 billion as of August 20, reflecting an increase of approximately $81 million over the previous week.
Of the total reserves, $17.099 billion were held by the SBP, while $5.489 billion were maintained by commercial banks.
Foreign exchange reserves held by commercial banks increased by $65 million compared with the previous week.
Pakistan’s current foreign exchange reserve position provides approximately 2.6 months of import cover.
The latest increase comes as Pakistan continues efforts to strengthen its external position and maintain adequate foreign exchange liquidity.
The gradual improvement in reserves is important for meeting the country’s external payment obligations and supporting stability in the foreign exchange market.
