The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has called on banks and fintech companies to accelerate the expansion of digital credit while building a trusted, accountable and inclusive digital financial ecosystem.
SBP Deputy Governor Muhammad Ali Khan said the central bank is focused not only on increasing digital access but also on strengthening regulation, accountability and consumer trust.
Speaking as the chief guest at the fourth Pakistan Fintech Forum in Karachi, Ali said digital financial services should translate into meaningful economic activity.
The forum, organized by the Pakistan Fintech Network under the theme “Building the Financial Future: Scale, Trust & Inclusion,” brought together policymakers and industry representatives to discuss the future of Pakistan’s digital financial sector.
Discussions at the event covered digital banking, access to credit, digital payments, financial inclusion, regulation, digital infrastructure and emerging technologies.
Participants examined how technology, financial data and stronger infrastructure could help expand access to financial services while improving consumer confidence.
Pakistan Fintech Network Chairman Syed Nadeem Hussain said the country’s fintech industry had moved beyond simply increasing digital adoption. He said the focus was now shifting toward developing an ecosystem that can scale responsibly and support inclusive economic growth.
Hussain also called for greater regulatory clarity, resilient digital infrastructure and stronger cooperation between banks and fintech companies to expand access to credit and deliver financial services to customers at scale.
The event was attended by senior representatives from the State Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan Digital Authority, Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA), and Raast Payments Pakistan, along with executives from the banking, fintech, payments, technology and investment sectors.
Speakers included SECP Commissioner Imtiaz Haider, Pakistan Digital Authority Chairperson Dr. Sohail Munir, PVARA Chairman Bilal Bin Saqib and Raast Payments Pakistan CEO Ahson Saeed.
The discussions highlighted the growing role of digital finance in Pakistan and the need for stronger collaboration between regulators, banks and fintech companies to expand responsible digital credit and financial inclusion.
