Sindh High Court (SHC) constitutional bench has issued formal notices to NADRA and the foreign ministry, summoning their reply over a blocked CNIC dispute.
The petitioner, Sara Riaz, states that NADRA has objected to her renewal request despite previously issuing her a national identity card and passport three times.
Her lawyer told the court that Sara Riaz arrived in Pakistan from Africa back in the 1980s, following her marriage to a Pakistani citizen residing in the country.
The lawyer confirmed that all three prior identity cards and passports were issued on the basis of Sara Riaz’s recognised and documented Pakistani citizenship status.
Sara Riaz’s national identity card has remained blocked for 6 years, severely disrupting her ability to access essential services and conduct daily life.
Her lawyer stated that the blocked identity card has frozen her bank account, preventing payment of water, electricity, and other routine utility bills.
The foreign ministry had directed Sara Riaz to contact the Consulate of Uganda, which her legal team attempted to locate using the officially provided address.
A court bailiff’s report revealed that the address provided for the Ugandan Consulate was found to be the location of an operating industrial factory instead.
The constitutional bench directed notices to the relevant federal departments, routed through the Deputy Attorney General, and formally summoned their written reply.
