Spotify is expanding its messaging tools, now allowing users to start group chats with up to 10 friends. The new feature makes it easier to share songs, playlists, and podcasts directly inside the app.
The in-app messaging service, first launched last August, was designed to keep users from switching to other platforms to share content. Over time, Spotify has added small upgrades to improve the experience. Earlier this month, it introduced real-time listening updates, so friends can see what each other is playing as it happens.
Users can also invite chat members to a Jam, Spotify’s collaborative listening tool, making group sessions more interactive.
Spotify joins a growing trend among content platforms that want to bring messaging inside their apps. YouTube, for example, said last year it would test direct messages again, a feature it first tried in 2017 and removed in 2019.
