Two Pakistani organizations selected for Upwork’s Social Impact Program

Upwork is a global freelancing platform where individuals are hired to work as a freelancer. The freelancing platform has selected two Pakistani organizations for its Social Impact Program named as Women’s Digital League and Empower Pakistan.

Upwork’s Social Impact program aims to help clients work with freelancers from underserved communities. Women’s Digital League and Empower Pakistan both have been working closely with the community living on the fringes of the poverty line to help them self-sustain and support their families and networks.

Women’s Digital League

Women’s Digital League provides digital services to its clients. The organization is owned by Pakistani women, who are facilitating women around Pakistan to earn working online while sitting at home. The organization provides services in many areas which include, Accounting, Administrative assistance, SEO, Social media marketing, Software testing and writing (content, creative, and technical).

Empower Pakistan

Another organization serving in the country, trying to equip the youth of the country with necessary skills that help to work as a freelancer. The organization is providing services in Graphic designing, Web designing, WordPress, Brochure design and Content writing.

Pakistan is one of the top most countries with millions of freelancers working online to earn a living. The potential of Pakistani youth has several times been acknowledged by international freelancing platforms and the government of Pakistan has vowed to train over 1 million freelancers.

Upwork was formed as a merger between Elance and oDesk back in 2015. The organization is based in San Francisco, California. The organization has twelve million registered freelancers and five million registered clients. Almost three million jobs are posted annually, making Upwork as one of the largest freelancing marketplaces.

This recent partnership is a huge win not only for the respective organizations but for Pakistan as well. As the influx of more projects to these organizations will encourage the international organizations to try and engage with more freelancers in Pakistan.
