WhatsApp is testing a new feature that could make the main chat list much easier to manage. The company is working on a separate folder that will automatically move messages from large businesses, helping users reduce clutter in their inbox.
Many WhatsApp users receive regular messages from banks, airlines, delivery services, and other large companies. Over time, these conversations can fill up the main chat list and make it harder to find personal chats. To solve this, WhatsApp is testing a new “Offers & Updates” folder, according to a recent report.
The feature will automatically move messages from large businesses into the new folder after a certain amount of time. WhatsApp is currently testing different time periods, with the longest option reaching up to 24 hours after a message is received.
Users who do not want this feature will be able to turn it off through the app’s settings. However, the report says users will not be able to choose their own time limit. Instead, they will have to use the duration selected by Meta or disable the feature completely.
The new folder is designed to keep promotional content, discount codes, and delivery updates away from the main chat list. As a result, personal conversations should become easier to find.
For now, the feature only applies to messages from large businesses. Messages from personal accounts and small businesses will continue to appear in the main chat list. However, WhatsApp is reportedly considering expanding the feature in the future to include business messages from smaller companies as well. The feature is still under testing, and there is no word yet on when it will become available to all WhatsApp users.
