WhatsApp rolls out Picture-in-Picture mode for Android users

Written by Shaoor Munir ·  38 sec read >

After the PiP (Picture-in-Picture) mode was launched for iOS users a year ago, WhatsApp promised to bring the feature to Android users in the future soon enough. It took about a year, but the feature is finally available for Android users too now.

What is Picture-in-Picture mode?

The picture-in-picture mode allows users to view videos from popular sites such as YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram without leaving the app. By clicking the video link, a small pop up will open up, allowing you to enjoy the video and continue texting simultaneously.

The feature was first introduced on iOS back in January, and it took nearly 12 months for the feature to come to Android phones.

How to activate the feature

There is nothing that you can do to activate the feature. It will be automatically activated once the latest update reaches your device. Currently, WhatsApp is beta testing this feature and if you are not a beta tester for WhatsApp, you will have to wait a little bit longer for the update to become available for you.
