Zuckerberg fires back at Apple CEO’s comments on privacy scandal

Zuckerberg needs ‘a few years’ to fix Facebook’s privacy issues. Just a few more “years”.

Last week, Apple CEO Tim Cook was asked about Facebook’s privacy crisis, Cook said he “wouldn’t be in this situation” if he were Facebook’s CEO. Cook doubled down on his call for regulation that would limit Facebook and others companies’ ability to use customer data.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg fired back at comments made by Cook while giving an interview to Vox. Zuckerburg was surprised to see such harsh comments from the company that “works hard to charge you more convince you that they actually care more about you.”

Zuckerberg called the remarks extremely glib saying; “I find that argument — that if you’re not paying, that somehow we can’t care about you — to be extremely glib and not at all aligned with the truth.”

People are already very cautious about the data privacy scandal and such a ruthless statement from the leader of the Cupertino tech giant was certainly a problem for Facebook that Zuckerburg tried to fix in even more confused words. As he said;

“At Facebook, we are squarely in the camp of the companies that work hard to charge you less and provide a free service that everyone can use. I don’t think at all that that means that we don’t care about people.”

Furthermore, he believes that Facebook will need ‘a few years’ to fix the problems uncovered by the revelations on the hijacking of private user data. He agreed to the fact that the company didn’t spend enough time investing in, or thinking through, some of the downsides uses of the tools. But now, Facebook will “dig through this hole, but it will take a few years”. “I wish I could solve all these issues in three months or six months”, he added.

Following reports of Facebook’s data breach scandal, the company has lost $100 billion in market value, until now. And it is likely to go drop further, as data privacy scandal is catching more heat.
