IO Interactive revealed exciting new details yesterday regarding 007 First Light. The highly anticipated game launches later this month. Meanwhile, PlayStation 5 Pro users will receive major visual upgrades through PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology.
Pushing Visuals with PSSR
Yann Roskell, IO Interactive’s Senior Global Communication Manager, detailed the upgrades in a recent blog post. The PS5 Pro version enables PSSR by default. Consequently, players do not need to adjust settings after booting up the game.
PSSR significantly boosts overall image quality. For instance, players will notice denser foliage and extra details during cinematic moments. Furthermore, the technology reduces flickering and shimmering effects. As a result, the game maintains a highly stable picture during chaotic gameplay segments. PSSR also reconstructs character details like hair and fabric with absolute clarity. Interestingly, IOI engineers implemented this tech quickly and with minimal effort.
Smooth Performance & Alleviated Concerns
The base PS5 model offers two distinct graphics options. Players can choose a 60fps Performance mode or a better-looking 30fps Quality mode. However, the PS5 Pro undoubtedly delivers the optimal PlayStation experience. It runs the game at a flawless 60 frames per second with maximum visual enhancements.
Previously, fans worried about the game’s performance after a September 2025 State of Play showcase. Gamers also criticized the heavy focus on a car chase and gameplay similarities to IO’s Hitman franchise. Fortunately, the studio aggressively addressed these concerns over the past few months. IOI recently dropped new trailers and a 60fps gameplay clip. Consequently, the developer successfully crushed those doubts and pushed fan anticipation even higher.
007 First Light Joining the PSSR Lineup
Sony launched its enhanced PSSR technology earlier this year. Now, 007 First Light joins a rapidly growing list of supported titles. For example, Capcom updated its breakout hit Pragmata post-launch to add PSSR visual and resolution enhancements. Moreover, massive high-profile games like Cyberpunk 2077, ARC Raiders, Ghost of Yotei, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 also utilize this extra processing power.
