A 10-year-old Pakistani chess prodigy, Rayaan Rehman, recently achieved a massive milestone for Pakistan. He officially earned the prestigious Arena International Master (AIM) title from the International Chess Federation (FIDE). Consequently, he stands as one of the youngest players in Pakistan to hold this distinction.
A Record-Breaking Rise in Chess
Rayaan consistently shatters age-related records. Prior to this latest achievement, he became the youngest Pakistani to earn the Arena FIDE Master (AFM) title. He also holds the record as the youngest Pakistani to achieve the Arena Candidate Master (ACM) title.
Domestically, he dominates the competition. He currently reigns as the Pakistan National Champion in the Under 10 Category. Additionally, he captured the championship titles at both the LUMS National Chess Tournament and the BNU Chess Tournament.
Importantly, Rayaan thrives in open chess tournaments that lack age restrictions. He actively defeats highly seasoned senior players. Despite their decades of competitive experience, Rayaan consistently outmaneuvers them on the board.
Representing Pakistan on the Global Stage
Beyond domestic borders, Rayaan proudly represents Pakistan in major international events. He recently competed at the Asian Youth International Chess Championship in Kazakhstan. He also participated in the Asian Schools Chess Championship 2024 in Bangkok and the Commonwealth Chess Championship 2025 in Malaysia.
During these rigorous international tournaments, he secured outright match victories against players from Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore, Mongolia, and Oman. Moreover, he posted strong competitive results against challengers from India, Sri Lanka, and Australia.
Pakistani Chess Prodigy Excelling Beyond the Chessboard
His rapid and unprecedented rise naturally attracts significant national attention. Major Pakistani media networks, including PTV, Geo News, Express News, and Bol News, actively cover his ongoing achievements.
However, Rayaan also excels outside of competitive chess. He currently holds the title of Regional Spelling Bee Champion. Furthermore, he recently achieved all As and A*s in his Grade 5 final examinations. Ultimately, this young talent showcases immense discipline and dedication across all his academic and extracurricular endeavors.
