LAHORE: The Punjab government has officially launched the Punjab consumer complaint portal, allowing residents to register complaints against shopkeepers and service providers online from the comfort of their homes, local media reported on Thursday.
Consumers can now easily file grievances by visiting www.consumerservice.punjab.gov.pk on their computers. The initiative aims to reduce the burden on physical consumer courts, especially for residents in Lahore’s remote areas who have faced difficulties in travelling to file complaints in person.
With the Punjab consumer complaint portal, users are required to upload relevant receipts and evidence to support their case. Complaints can be submitted 24/7, covering a wide range of issues such as unfulfilled warranties, incomplete construction projects by contractors, defective home appliances, poor beauty salon services, and delays in delivering women’s clothing.
Once a complaint is filed online, the registrar of the concerned consumer court will directly reach out to the complainant for further proceedings.
The move follows a record surge in complaints back in September 2021, where Lahore alone saw 500 to 600 consumer cases being filed each day. However, due to limited judicial resources—with only one judge currently overseeing all cases—courts can only hear 100 to 125 cases per day, leaving hundreds pending.
Currently, 2,011 consumer protection cases remain unresolved in Punjab’s courts. Officials believe that the new Punjab consumer complaint portal will streamline the grievance process, reduce case backlog, and improve access to justice for consumers across the province.
