Cda Approves Smart Water Metering Project For Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has approved a large-scale water metering project to modernize Islamabad’s water supply system through smart monitoring and efficient management. The initiative aims to minimize wastage, promote conservation, and implement a transparent billing system for city residents.

The decision was finalized in a meeting of the Islamabad Water Agency chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa. Senior officials, including Member Planning and Design Dr. Khalid Hafiz, DG Islamabad Water, DG Planning and Development, and representatives from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Pakistan Telecommunications Infrastructure Authority (PTIA), attended the session.

According to the CDA, the smart water metering project will transform Islamabad’s water management by using smart technology to ensure accountability and efficiency. Chairman Randhawa stated that expert consultants will be hired to design and install a modern metering system across the capital.

“The water metering project is a key milestone for Islamabad. It will strengthen water governance, improve sustainability, and help protect our natural resources,” Randhawa said.

Officials also reviewed complementary projects, including plans to convert tube wells and electrical systems to solar energy, introduce energy-efficient pumps, and upgrade the sewerage infrastructure. However, the water metering initiative will remain the immediate priority.

Randhawa added that the CDA’s long-term vision focuses on adopting sustainable practices to guarantee a consistent and clean water supply for Islamabad’s growing population. The water metering project is expected to reduce distribution losses, prevent misuse, and bring the capital’s infrastructure in line with global urban management standards.
