Ptcl Confirms Internet Speed In Pakistan Restored After Submarine Cable Repair

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) announced on Wednesday that internet speed in Pakistan has been fully restored after the completion of repair work on a faulty repeater in an undersea cable system.

The issue had caused slow internet connectivity across parts of the country, including upper Punjab and the federal capital, where users had already been facing disruptions due to the prevailing law and order situation.

According to PTCL spokesperson Amir Pasha, an international cable consortium carried out maintenance on one of the company’s submarine cables to address the issue. “The repair process began at 11 am on October 14 and has now been successfully completed,” Pasha confirmed in a statement, adding that internet speed in Pakistan has returned to normal levels nationwide.

PTCL operates three submarine optical fiber cable networks that provide international internet connectivity to the country. Combined with three other systems, two owned by Trans World Associates (Pvt) Ltd and one by Cyber Internet Services (PEACE cable), Pakistan currently has six operational submarine cables with a total capacity of 13Tbps.

National internet usage averages between 7 and 8Tbps, indicating that the system is now performing efficiently following the recent restoration.
