The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has launched a formal search for a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) following the resignation of Abu Bakar, who stepped down citing personal reasons after serving one year in office.

Abu Bakar, appointed in October 2024 after a two-year leadership gap, was known for initiatives that strengthened Pakistan’s IT export ecosystem and promoted collaboration between government and private tech stakeholders. His departure marks a key leadership transition for PSEB  a body central to boosting the country’s IT and IT-enabled services (ITES) exports.

According to MoITT, the CEO position is open to qualified professionals for a three-year contractual term. Candidates must hold 16 years of education in engineering, ICT, business administration, finance, or marketing from an HEC-accredited institution, with 15 years of professional experience  including five years in senior leadership.

Applicants must also fulfill the “Fit and Proper” criteria set under the State-Owned Enterprise (Governance and Operations) Act, 2023. The deadline for applications is November 4, 2025, and interested individuals can apply through the National Job Portal or Tech Destination websites.

A senior MoITT official stated:

“The new CEO will be tasked with leading Pakistan’s IT export growth, managing ongoing PSEB initiatives, and launching new programs to enhance the country’s global competitiveness in technology.”

The appointment is seen as critical for sustaining momentum in Pakistan’s growing IT export sector, which has become a major contributor to the economy. PSEB’s new leadership will play a vital role in expanding international partnerships, investor confidence, and digital innovation.
