A major leadership change just occurred in Pakistan’s digital security sector. Reportedly, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi will take over as the new Director General (DG) of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). According to a recent report from ProPakistani, this transfer serves as part of a broader reshuffle within the federal capital’s policing and cybercrime setup.
Former Islamabad IG Becomes the New DG NCCIA
Previously, Rizvi served as the Inspector General (IG) of the Islamabad Police. He initially took charge of the capital’s police force back in April 2024. During his tenure, he aggressively managed policing operations. Furthermore, he oversaw critical security measures and maintained law and order across Islamabad. Now, he brings his extensive law enforcement experience to the digital domain.
Meanwhile, the federal capital requires a new top cop. Therefore, Captain (Retd.) Sohail Chaudhry will step in as Rizvi’s direct replacement. Chaudhry will now lead the Islamabad Police force moving forward.
The NCCIA operates as Pakistan’s specialized agency for combating digital threats. Specifically, the organization investigates cybercrime and takes strict legal action against cybercriminals. Moreover, its primary duties involve handling complaints related to online fraud, digital harassment, and major data breaches. In addition, the agency consistently conducts advanced digital forensics and complex technical investigations.
The government originally established the NCCIA to serve as the central, dedicated body for all cybercrime investigations. Consequently, it officially replaced the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) cybercrime wing. Today, the agency actively operates through multiple offices across the entire country. As a result, citizens can submit their cyber offense complaints directly to the NCCIA for immediate action.
