Netflix has dropped the opening five minutes of Stranger Things Season 5, and the scene immediately dives into the night Will Byers vanished in 1983, revealing his chilling connection to Vecna.
The flashback shows Will trapped in the Upside Down, singing “Should I Stay or Should I Go” to calm himself. A Demogorgon attacks, forcing him to flee before Vecna appears, declaring, “You and I will do such beautiful things together, William.” The villain’s tendrils inject a dark substance into Will, confirming the psychic link that has haunted him since the first season.
It seems like the entire Stranger Things mythology, proving Vecna’s influence stretches back to the beginning. According to the Duffer Brothers, Season 5 begins in chaos, mirroring an Avengers: Endgame-style opening. Will is once again the emotional core, tying every mystery: his abduction, the Upside Down, and Vecna’s rise, into one story.
Netflix confirmed the final season will stream in three volumes across late 2025. As Eleven, Will, and their friends prepare for the last battle, the first five minutes prove this finale will close the circle where the Stranger Things legend began.
