PTA Begins Crackdown: Unregistered Phones Face Immediate Ban
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a strong nationwide warning on November 19, 2025. The regulator has cautioned millions of users that unregistered or non-compliant mobile phones may face an immediate ban from all local networks. The move comes as authorities tighten enforcement across the country.
The authority confirmed that any device not validated through the Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DIRBS) can be blocked without prior notice. Only registered and verified phones will continue to receive voice, SMS, and data services in Pakistan.
However, unregistered phones still circulate widely in local markets. These devices are often cheaper due to unpaid taxes and customs duties. They attract low-income buyers. But they also carry major risks. Users may face sudden loss of network access, weak signals, and repeated connectivity failures.
PTA urged consumers to verify their device status immediately. Users can check the phone’s 15-digit IMEI number by dialling *#06#. They can then confirm the IMEI through the PTA website or by sending it via SMS to 8484.
Officials stressed that enforcement efforts are growing nationwide. Anyone who does not register their device may experience complete service disruption.
PTA said that DIRBS compliance is essential. It helps stop grey-market mobile phone inflows. It also protects buyers from financial loss and secures Pakistan’s telecom infrastructure.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority advised the public to purchase only authorised devices. It also urged users to complete device registration as soon as possible. The nationwide crackdown is already underway, and restrictions may begin without warning.
