The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has finalized a blockchain powered degree attestation system, marking a major shift toward a fully digital, paperless, and contactless verification process in Pakistan. The revamped system will remove the need for applicants to visit HEC offices or submit physical documents.
According to HEC, procurement for the new system has been completed, and full implementation is expected within the next six months. The initiative aims to address long standing issues of delays, manual processing, and verification fraud.
Acting Chairman HEC, Nadeem Mahbub, has directed the team to
“prioritise the task and ensure its earliest deployment,” emphasizing that the system will simplify and secure degree verification nationwide.
How the Blockchain Attestation System Will Work
Under the new mechanism, the process becomes entirely online:
Graduates of ERP enabled universities, 25 Higher Education Institutions so far, will have their academic data automatically integrated into HEC’s blockchain.
HEC officials explained,
“Students from these universities will not be required to submit any documents their verified degrees will appear directly on the HEC portal.”
Students from non-ERP institutions will upload degrees and transcripts to the HEC portal. Their documents will be sent digitally to the respective university for verification before being added to the blockchain.
HEC confirms that the system will offer instant, tamper-proof digital verification, accessible to government departments, embassies, the Foreign Office, and private employers.
This transition will make the attestation process paperless, automated, secure, and transparent, eliminating manual stamping, physical visits, and document handling.
Once integrated, all records will be stored on HEC’s blockchain ensuring permanent, protected, and instantly verifiable academic data.
