Internet users across Pakistan are likely to face slow speeds and service disruptions on January 15, as maintenance work is scheduled on one of the country’s key submarine internet cables. According to internet service provider Nayatel, the repair activity will begin around 2:00 PM and may continue for up to eight hours, potentially affecting connectivity nationwide.
In an email sent to customers, Nayatel described the activity as an unavoidable maintenance operation on an international submarine cable. While the company did not disclose the exact cable or fault location, it warned that users may experience internet slowness during the maintenance window. Such cables are critical for Pakistan’s international data traffic, and even partial disruptions can impact browsing, streaming, online work, and digital services.
This development comes shortly after a major internet disruption earlier this month. On January 1, 2026, users across Pakistan reported widespread outages due to issues with one of the country’s upstream internet providers. That incident caused degraded services for more than two days, raising concerns about the resilience of Pakistan’s international connectivity infrastructure.
Pakistan relies heavily on a limited number of submarine cables for global internet access. While scheduled repairs are necessary, they often have noticeable effects on users. Internet companies typically reroute traffic through alternative links, but congestion can still cause slower speeds.
During the maintenance period on January 15, users may face slower internet speeds rather than a complete blackout. ISPs have advised customers to plan critical online activities accordingly until the repair work is completed and services are fully stabilized.
