Ubisoft is reportedly planning significant performance upgrades for its back catalogue. According to recent reports, several classic Assassin’s Creed (AC) titles could soon receive 60 FPS updates. This move aims to improve the player experience on current-generation consoles, specifically the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
Insider Reveals Potential Roadmap
Tom Henderson dropped this news during the “Insider Gaming Weekly” podcast. The insider claimed Ubisoft wants to bring a 60 FPS boost to older entries in the franchise. Henderson specifically named Assassin’s Creed Unity as a likely candidate for the first update.

Furthermore, he implied other titles could follow. Games currently limited to 30 FPS, such as AC 3, Rogue, and The Ezio Collection, fit the criteria for an upgrade. Henderson also noted that AC 4: Black Flag fits this category. However, rumours regarding a full remake, AC 4: Black Flag Resynced, might complicate a simple frame-rate patch for that specific title.
Following the Far Cry Strategy
This potential rollout mirrors Ubisoft’s recent strategy with the Far Cry series. The studio recently surprised gamers with 60 FPS updates for Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon, and Primal. Consequently, expanding this support to Assassin’s Creed makes strategic sense.
Ubisoft has a history of supporting this franchise long after release. For example, the company released a 60 FPS update for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate in November 2024. Before that, they upgraded Assassin’s Creed Origins in 2022. Additionally, they have previously added Steam achievements to older games that launched without them.
Ubisoft’s Future Plans for Assassin’s Creed
These updates arrive during a critical time for the publisher. Ubisoft is currently undergoing significant restructuring following a massive hit to its stock price. Therefore, the Assassin’s Creed brand will likely become even more central to their future plans.
Currently, very little information exists regarding the next mainline title, AC Hexe. Simultaneously, rumours suggest the restructuring has delayed the unconfirmed Black Flag Resynced project. With these shifts occurring, earning player goodwill through free performance upgrades would be a logical step for the company in 2026.
