The Excise and Taxation Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has generated Rs. 5.81 crore after auctioning 11 high-demand vehicle number plates in Peshawar, with plates carrying regional and tribal names attracting record bids.
The highest-ever bid of the auction was recorded for “Wazir-1,” which sold for Rs. 1.5 crore, followed closely by “Afridi-1” at Rs. 1.40 crore and “Khan-1” at Rs. 1.11 crore. The iconic “Peshawar-1” plate also crossed the crore mark, fetching Rs. 1 crore.
According to officials, the strong response highlights the growing trend among affluent buyers to own exclusive and identity-linked registration numbers.
Other notable sales included Haripur-1 for Rs. 80 lakh, Yusufzai-1 for Rs. 49 lakh, and Durrani-1 for Rs. 16.6 lakh. Plates such as Swabi-1, Malakand-1, DI Khan-1, and Gandapur-1 were sold between Rs. 10.8 lakh and Rs. 12 lakh, slightly above the base price.
The department confirmed that all plates had a starting price of Rs. 10 lakh, ensuring a competitive bidding process.
Officials also revealed that number plates associated with former Prime Minister Imran Khan “Imran Khan-1” and “Imran Khan-804” were not included in this auction round.
Revenue from such auctions contributes directly to provincial funds and has become a consistent income stream for the Excise Department amid rising public interest.
