Ubisoft pulled a massive surprise today. Without any marketing fanfare, the publisher released The Division: Definitive Edition. You can buy it right now on PlayStation, Steam, and Xbox marketplaces. This “shadow drop” arrives just in time to celebrate the franchise’s 10th anniversary this year.
However, this release might puzzle some fans. The package is comprehensive, but it lacks the technical overhaul many expected for a decade-old franchise.
Not the Remaster You Wanted from Ubisoft
Let’s rip the bandage off first. The Division: Definitive Edition is not a remastered version. It is essentially the old Gold Edition bundled with every preorder bonus and cosmetic pack.
The collection does not offer native versions for the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X. Consequently, you will not see performance upgrades designed for modern hardware. The game relies entirely on upscaling and previous performance boost patches. If you hoped for a graphical overhaul to match current-gen standards, you will likely be disappointed.

While the graphics remain untouched, the content volume is massive. This edition bundles the original 2016 game, where the “Dollar Flu” devastated NYC on Black Friday, with every single piece of post-launch content.

The Future of the Franchise
Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment have more planned beyond this re-release. The Division 2 is currently enjoying a renaissance. Massive Entertainment continues to support it with seasonal updates and the Battle for Brooklyn expansion.
Currently, the team is developing a “Survivors” game mode for The Division 2. Led by Magnus Jansén, this mode transforms the Washington D.C. map with a massive blizzard. It pushes players to balance looting with surviving harsh cold conditions, drawing inspiration from the original game’s Survival mode.
Furthermore, The Division 3 is in active development. Former executive producer Julian Gerighty admitted the sequel is shaping up to be a “monster”. Although he could not provide concrete details, he confirmed the team has worked on it for a couple of years. Fans hope the 10th-anniversary celebration will eventually bring a sneak peek of this highly anticipated sequel.
