US President Donald Trump has voiced support for the United States of America (USA) cricket team competing in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, sharing encouragement publicly.
Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, the US president said he had learned that a cricket World Cup is underway in India, highlighting his awareness of the event.
He extended good wishes to Team USA, saying the American side is very strong, as he publicly backed the squad during the international tournament being played in India.
“I just heard the Cricket World Cup is underway in India! I wish the best of luck to Team USA! We have a very strong team. America is rooting for you!” the US president wrote.
The United States team had earlier lost its opening match of the tournament, suffering a 29-run defeat against hosts India in their first fixture of the competition.
USA started superbly with the ball, reducing India to 46 for four inside the Powerplay, as Abhishek Sharma fell to Ali Khan for a golden duck at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Shadley van Schalkwyk struck three times in the final over of the Powerplay, applying pressure and further denting India’s innings during an impressive opening bowling spell for USA.
The Men in Blue kept losing wickets regularly before captain Suryakumar Yadav scored 84 not out from 49 balls, steering his side to 161 for nine at the end of the first innings.
The match-winning innings included 10 fours and four sixes, marking his fourth half-century in five T20I innings, while Tilak Varma scored 25 runs off 16 balls.
After posting over 160, India bowled tightly to restrict USA to 132 for eight, with Mohammed Siraj taking three wickets for 29.
