The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has rejected requests by players to have their families accompany them during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka.
According to the media reports, team management had asked whether wives or fiancées could stay with the squad, but the the cricket authority in India denied the proposal.
Families can make separate arrangements if they wish, but official team accommodations will not host relatives, ensuring players remain focused on preparation, training, and competition.
This restriction is not new, as similar guidelines were introduced after India suffered a heavy defeat against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, tightening rules for extended international tours overseas.
Under current regulations, families may join players only for the first 14 days of tours longer than 45 days, balancing personal interaction with professional responsibilities and uninterrupted tournament preparation.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, cricketers were allowed to stay with families throughout tours, but post-pandemic rules reverted to stricter limitations to maintain discipline and competitive focus on the field.
The team will travel on a private chartered plane, while players employing personal chefs or support staff will be accommodated separately.
These measures aim to maintain professionalism, limit distractions, and ensure consistent training, reflecting the board’s focus on discipline and preparation during major tournaments.
The BCCI confirmed all policies are applied uniformly with no exceptions, prioritizing team readiness and efficiency while allowing players personal comfort without affecting performance or tournament focus in Sri Lanka.
