T20 World Cup 2026: Super Eight Qualification Race Heats Up

After two weeks of group-stage action in the T20 World Cup 2026, only four teams have confirmed their spots in the Super Eight, while the remaining teams fight for the final four places.

Teams Already Qualified

India have booked their place in the Super Eight after an emphatic 61-run victory over Pakistan, winning all three of their opening games and topping Group A with a game to spare.

West Indies became the first team to qualify, securing three consecutive wins, including a dominant nine-wicket victory over Nepal, confirming their progression to the next stage.

England also secured Super Eight qualification, defeating Italy by 24 runs in their last group-stage fixture, making it three wins for the side and ensuring advancement from Group C.

South Africa claimed a spot after Afghanistan beat the UAE on Monday, confirming the Proteas’ place in the next round, with New Zealand still needing a win against Canada to join them.

Teams Eliminated

Several teams have already exited the tournament, unable to qualify for the Super Eight stage. Namibia, Nepal, and Oman lost all three group-stage games, leaving their remaining fixtures inconsequential to progression.

India lead Group A and are assured of a top-two finish, having won all three games. Their strong net run rate also provides a significant advantage over the other sides.

Pakistan remain in contention but face a must-win clash against Namibia. A loss could eliminate them, allowing the USA, currently second on the points table, to advance by virtue of a superior net run rate.

The Netherlands still have a slim chance of progressing, requiring a win over India and favorable results elsewhere, while Namibia have been eliminated after losing all their previous games.

Australia face a difficult path after losing to Zimbabwe last week, leaving three teams tied on six points in Group B, making the final round tense and full of uncertainty.

The 2021 champions must defeat Sri Lanka on Monday and beat Oman in their final match to stay in contention, but the net run rate will play a decisive role if other results turn unfavourable.

Sri Lanka must beat both Australia and Zimbabwe to reach the Super Eight, while Zimbabwe need two wins, and Ireland’s chances depend on several favourable results in other group-stage matches.

Oman have been eliminated and cannot progress, regardless of the outcome of the remaining games.

South Africa have advanced to the Super Eight stage after winning their first three encounters. New Zealand can still progress if they defeat Canada in their final group match.

Afghanistan need a massive win over Canada and other results to fall in their favor, while UAE and Canada require multiple favorable outcomes to have a chance at qualification.
