Private medical colleges in Punjab have requested regulators to extend the deadline for filling vacant MBBS seats to February 28, after several institutions reported unfilled admissions despite the earlier cutoff. The proposal follows recent changes in the national medical admissions schedule and aims to ensure all remaining seats are allocated.
The request was made during a consultative session at the University of Health Sciences, chaired by Ahsan Waheed Rathore. Principals reviewed vacant seats, admission progress, and applicant concerns, agreeing to forward the extension proposal to the Provincial Admission Committee.
Colleges had originally been given a February 13 deadline, but many reported remaining vacancies even after that date.
Participants also approved relief measures for students. Any student withdrawing admission by March 31 will receive a full fee refund without deductions.
Students wishing to transfer to another college must obtain a no-objection certificate (NOC) from their current institution. Colleges have been directed not to withhold NOCs until February 24, allowing students time to change placements.
The proposed extension follows a revised admissions timeline issued by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council. If approved, private colleges will fill remaining MBBS seats between February 24 and February 28, with institutions indicating they will not seek further extensions.
