India stormed to 92 without loss in the six-over powerplay against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2026 final in Ahmedabad, producing the joint-highest powerplay total in tournament history.
Abhishek Sharma hammered the fastest fifty of this World Cup and the quickest half-century in a T20 World Cup knockout reaching his landmark in just 18 balls during the powerplay.
Sanju Samson also attacked early hitting a six off Matt Henry after four dot balls by stepping down the pitch and forcing the bowler to adjust his length immediately afterwards.

New Zealand Lose Control
New Zealand struggled badly with discipline during the powerplay bowling eight extra deliveries their highest number of extras in a T20I powerplay as India punished loose lines and wide balls.
Lockie Ferguson also conceded heavily as edges flew over the wicketkeeper and deep third while wides and a neat leg glance from Samson helped India race to 51 without loss.
Glenn Phillips meanwhile bowled his first ever international powerplay over and conceded only five runs briefly slowing India’s charge before the openers accelerated again against the seamers soon afterwards today.
Abhishek Leads Relentless Attack
Jacob Duffy attempted to finish the powerplay with two boundary riders on the off side but Abhishek repeatedly walked across the crease pulling deliveries into the leg side with authority.
Earlier Abhishek began cautiously against offspinner Glenn Phillips but quickly attacked fuller deliveries from Duffy driving over mid-on and mid-off while Samson also cleared mid-off after forcing the bowler full.
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner had won the toss and chose to chase in Ahmedabad where only two of the last twelve night matches were won by chasing sides recently.
