The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has ordered a halt to the use of 60% of official vehicles across all provincial departments for the next two months in an effort to conserve fuel. The decision comes amid concerns about disruptions in petroleum supplies due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
According to an official notification issued by the provincial administration department, the restriction applies to all government establishments. Departments have been directed to ensure compliance with the decision during the two-month period.
However, the government clarified that the measure will not apply to essential services. Police operational duties, law-enforcement activities, rescue operations, emergency services and field enforcement units have been exempted to ensure public safety and emergency response remain unaffected.
Along with the reduction in vehicle use, the provincial government has also cut monthly fuel allowances for officials by 25%. The move is part of a broader effort to reduce fuel consumption within government departments.
Under the revised limits, ministers, advisers and special assistants to the chief minister will now receive 292 liters of fuel per month instead of 390 liters. Fuel allocations for senior bureaucrats, including the chief secretary and other top officials, have also been reduced.
Officials said the restrictions are temporary and will remain in place for two months as the government monitors the regional situation and energy supply concerns.
