Aramco has announced a significant reduction in high-octane petrol prices, lowering the rate by Rs 200 per liter at its fuel stations in Pakistan. The new price stands at Rs 410 per liter, down from Rs 610. The cut comes shortly after a recent spike in prices driven by higher levies on premium fuel.
The price cut comes at a time when fuel costs have been under close watch. While the government recently kept overall petroleum prices unchanged, it increased the levy on high-octane petrol, which pushed its retail price above Rs 600 per liter at several outlets. At some locations, including Pakistan State Oil pumps, the rate had reached close to Rs 589 per liter.
High-octane petrol is mainly used in vehicles with turbocharged and high-compression engines. Many newer models in Pakistan, both imported and locally assembled, are designed to perform better with this type of fuel. As a result, demand for high-octane has been rising steadily over the past few years.
The sudden increase in prices had made it difficult for many car owners to continue using the recommended fuel.
