The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a fresh warning to citizens as phishing scams continue to rise across the country. The authority has urged people to stay alert while using digital platforms, warning that even a single careless click can lead to financial loss or identity theft.
In its latest advisory, the PTA highlighted a growing pattern of cyber fraud where scammers use fake emails, text messages, and websites to trick users into sharing sensitive information. These messages often appear to come from trusted institutions, making it harder for people to identify them as fraudulent.
Officials say fraudsters are increasingly creating a sense of urgency, pressuring individuals to act quickly without verifying the source. Victims are commonly asked to provide one-time passwords (OTPs), banking details, account credentials, or personal verification information, which is then used to access accounts or carry out financial fraud.
The PTA has clearly advised citizens not to open suspicious links or respond to unknown messages. Users are encouraged to verify the identity of the sender before taking any action and to avoid sharing personal or financial information with unverified platforms.
The authority also stressed the importance of reporting such incidents promptly and spreading awareness among family and friends. Officials believe that greater public awareness can play a key role in preventing these scams from spreading further.
