The Lahore Electric Supply Company has raised the price of single-phase AMI smart meters by up to Rs6,000, increasing the cost for consumers applying for new electricity connections.
According to reports, the price of a single-phase smart meter has been revised from Rs11,665 to Rs17,700.
Initially, LESCO’s Material Management Department had set the meter price at Rs11,665. However, a later notification issued by the Director of Customer Services revised the cost to Rs17,700, making the new rate applicable for consumers.
Previously, single-phase static meters were priced at around Rs4,000. Following a ban on static meters, consumers are now required to install smart meters, significantly increasing overall costs.
The difference between the earlier static meter price and the new smart meter now stands at approximately Rs13,000.
Under the updated policy:
- Consumers will receive a 10-meter cable with the smart meter
- Additional charges will apply for cable lengths exceeding 10 meters
Applicants seeking new electricity connections will also be required to submit security deposits based on their sanctioned load, in line with company regulations.
The increase in smart meter prices is expected to raise the upfront cost of new electricity connections, adding to the financial burden on consumers amid rising utility expenses.
