Pakistan’s telecom sector is moving toward a major shift as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority grants the final No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the long-awaited merger of Ufone and Telenor Pakistan. This decision clears a key regulatory barrier and allows both companies to take the next legal step.
After securing approval from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, the two operators will now approach the court. They plan to file a petition to seek formal approval of their amalgamation under relevant corporate and telecom laws. Once the court approves, the process will reach its final stage, bringing both companies under a single structure.
Meanwhile, industry experts believe this merger will reshape the telecom market in Pakistan. The combined entity is expected to gain stronger spectrum holdings and wider network coverage. In addition, it will have better financial strength to invest in advanced technologies, including 5G.
The approval comes after months of detailed regulatory review. Authorities closely examined competition concerns, consumer protection measures, and spectrum management issues. With the final No Objection Certificate now issued, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has confirmed that both companies meet all key requirements.
Once the court gives its approval, the merged company will likely become a strong competitor. As a result, market competition may increase, and service quality could improve for users across Pakistan.
