The Islamabad administration has declared April 9 and 10, 2026, as holidays across the Islamabad Capital Territory through a notification issued by the District Magistrate.
Under the order, all educational institutions and government and private offices in the federal capital will remain closed on Thursday and Friday for both days.
Essential services including utilities, policing, and healthcare will continue, with MCI, CDA, ICT Administration, ICT Police, IESCO, SNGPL, and hospitals exempted from the closure order.
While no reason was specified, the move appears tied to security preparations as Pakistan readies for reported United States Iran talks scheduled in Islamabad soon.
Earlier in a day, authorities in Islamabad have closed multiple Red Zone entry points ahead of expected diplomatic talks involving delegations from Iran and the United States this week.
Traffic police said Express Gate at D-Chowk, Marriot Gate, T-Cross and NADRA Gate remain shut for commuters until further notice during security arrangements.
Motorists have been advised to use Margalla Gate and Serena Gate as alternative routes when travelling near central Islamabad during the planned traffic management operation.
Officials said temporary road closures are also expected between Old Airport and the Red Zone on 10 April as foreign delegations arrive for scheduled meetings.
Commuters have been urged to allow an additional 45 minutes for travel and avoid unnecessary movement towards restricted areas throughout the capital during the visit.
