The China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) just made a major announcement. They officially selected Muhammad Zeeshan Ali and Khurram Daud. Consequently, these two Pakistani astronauts will train for China’s space station missions. Furthermore, they proudly represent the first foreign candidates ever chosen for this program.
The selection of Muhammad Zeeshan Ali and Khurram Daud by the China Manned Space Agency for the Tiangong space station is a completely different league. If one of them flies as a payload specialist, it will mark the first time a Pakistani national actually reaches Earth’s orbit and docks at a space station. Additionally, the chosen individual will achieve another major record. He will become the very first foreign astronaut to visit the Chinese space station.
Rigorous Space Station Training Ahead
Previously, the candidates passed multiple rigorous selection rounds. Soon, they will travel to China. There, they will take part in comprehensive spaceflight training. Upon completing all training courses, the authorities will evaluate them. Subsequently, one candidate will join a mission crew as a payload specialist.
This entire process stems from a prior agreement. Specifically, in February 2025, CMSA and Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) signed a bilateral agreement in Islamabad. This treaty officially opened cooperation on selecting and training Pakistani astronauts.
Strengthening Strategic Partnerships
According to the CMSA, this development marks a landmark event for China’s space industry. Moreover, it serves as an iconic achievement of international cooperation on the Chinese space station. The agency stated that this initiative perfectly showcases the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership taking concrete shape in the space sector.
Furthermore, the Chinese government wants to demonstrate an open attitude. They actively welcome all countries to participate in scientific experiments and technological tests on the Tiangong station. Ultimately, the peaceful use of outer space remains a core mission for China. Together, both nations aim to expand humanity’s understanding of the universe.
