iPhone users in Pakistan can now access 5G services on Zong’s network by installing iOS 26.5 Public Beta, contradicting widespread reports that iPhone 5G support would remain unavailable until 2027. Testing conducted near Zong 5G towers in select coverage areas delivered download speeds between 244 Mbps and 290 Mbps with upload speeds around 76 Mbps, marking the first confirmed instance of operational 5G connectivity on Apple devices in Pakistan.
Zong currently represents the only Pakistani telecom operator that has fulfilled technical requirements set by Apple for enabling 5G on iPhones in the country. Users with 5G-supported iPhone models and Zong SIM cards can access 5G services in selected areas where the operator has deployed compatible towers. Jazz, Ufone, and other telecom companies have yet to officially announce similar iPhone 5G support despite launching 5G services for Android devices.
The activation process requires users to enroll in Apple’s Beta Software Program through Safari browser, enable beta updates in iPhone software update settings, and install iOS 26.5 Public Beta. After installation, users can verify 5G coverage through the My Zong app which includes a dedicated 5G coverage map showing supported areas. Users must manually enable “5G Auto” or “5G On” from the iPhone’s Voice & Data settings menu under Cellular Data Options to activate the feature.
Industry sources confirmed that existing 4G data packages appear functional on the new 5G network without requiring additional subscription or separate package activation. Speed tests demonstrate users can expect speeds approaching 300 Mbps under favorable conditions near Zong towers. The rollout remains limited and unavailable across all locations as Zong continues expanding 5G infrastructure deployment to over 1,000 sites nationwide in 2026.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority auctioned 480 MHz of 5G spectrum worth $507 million in March 2026 across 700 MHz, 2,300 MHz, 2,600 MHz, and 3,500 MHz bands. Zong, Jazz, and Ufone secured frequencies for next-generation mobile services. Jazz launched 5G services at approximately 180 sites covering provincial capitals while Zong activated commercial services in over 16 cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Quetta. However, Jazz has not yet added iPhone support to its 5G-compatible device list.
Alternative Methods for Enabling iPhone 5G Remain Limited
The iOS 26.5 beta method currently represents the only confirmed working approach for enabling iPhone 5G in Pakistan. Alternative methods including network switching through foreign SIM cards, jailbreaking, VPN location spoofing, manual APN configuration, and third-party applications do not successfully enable 5G connectivity on iPhones. Apple controls 5G activation through carrier-specific settings embedded within iOS updates, meaning hardware capability alone does not guarantee network access without official certification.
Some users reported attempting SIM swapping using cards from countries where iPhone 5G already functions, however this approach proves unreliable and may violate carrier terms of service while causing network compatibility issues. Jailbreaking modifications cannot override Apple’s carrier bundle restrictions that determine which networks display 5G options. Industry experts emphasized that waiting for Apple’s official carrier settings update through stable iOS releases provides the most reliable long-term solution for mainstream users avoiding beta software instability.
Apple reportedly informed Pakistani authorities it plans to enable 5G services for iPhone users in 2027 after reviewing Pakistan’s market size and adoption trends. Ministry of IT and Telecom officials stated Apple prioritizes phased rollout of advanced network features based on regional readiness and commercial sustainability. Heavy taxes on imported smartphones, particularly iPhones, have reduced Apple’s market share in Pakistan with latest iPhone models costing between Rs480,000 and Rs650,000 in local markets.
Telecom industry analysts noted that discussions with other operators suggest broader iPhone 5G support could arrive sooner than the 2027 timeline, though no official confirmation has been provided. Jazz and Ufone may introduce similar beta testing programs in coming months as they complete technical certification processes with Apple. The beta software requirement currently limits widespread adoption as most iPhone users avoid installing unstable pre-release operating system versions. Industry observers expect a full rollout for Zong iPhone users in coming weeks once testing is completed and stability is ensured through stable iOS releases, with nationwide expansion across all carriers potentially arriving by late 2026 or early 2027.
