Electricity consumers in Pakistan has paid over Rs19 trillion in taxes during the last three years, according to official documents from the Ministry of Energy.
According to the documents, distribution companies collected Rs5.07 trillion in taxes during 2022‑23, while Rs6.98 trillion were collected during fiscal year 2023‑24.
Documents also confirmed that more than Rs7 trillion were collected last year, with Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) alone charging Rs2.32 trillion.
Lahore Electric Supply Company collected Rs5.32 trillion in three years, while Gujranwala Electric Supply Company charged Rs2.40 trillion during the same period.
Faisalabad Electric Supply Company collected Rs3.07 trillion, while Multan Electric Supply Company received Rs3.23 trillion in taxes during the three‑year period.
Peshawar Electric Supply Company collected Rs1.51 trillion, while Hyderabad Electric Supply Company charged Rs57.58 billion in taxes from electricity consumers.
Quetta Electric Supply Company collected Rs24.28 billion, while Tribal Electric Supply Company charged Rs1.55 billion during the three‑year period.
Sukkur Electric Supply Company collected Rs34.46 billion in taxes from consumers, according to official documents reviewed by relevant authorities.
