Yesterday, Embark Studios dropped a bombshell on the extraction shooter community. In a blog post, Embark Studios announced that they are officially killing off the ARC Raiders monthly update cycle. Instead, the developer is shifting to a biannual release schedule. Embark admits the monthly development grind was completely unsustainable for their team. Now, they are focusing their resources on larger, game-changing expansions rather than incremental patches.
The ‘Frozen Trail’ Juggernaut
Consequently, the first true test of this new strategy arrives this October. Embark confidently calls “Frozen Trail” their biggest update ever. Players will explore a massive, layered map packed with fresh mysteries. Additionally, the update introduces redesigned ARC enemies boasting unique combat behaviors.
The developers are also completely overhauling the skill tree and progression goals. Furthermore, lore enthusiasts will finally get concrete answers regarding the origins of the mechanical ARC units. Naturally, players can also expect a massive influx of new weapons, gear, and cosmetics.
Immediate Relief for Veteran ARC Raiders Players
Meanwhile, Embark Studios cannot afford to lose its hardcore players while they wait for October. Therefore, a dedicated live team is rolling out a brand-new endgame vendor in Speranza next week. The Trader strictly unlocks at level 25. Players will exchange rare, high-value items for a rotating stock of weekly rewards.
Moreover, this vendor introduces two critical gameplay perks. The “Extra Stash” perk significantly expands your overall storage capacity. Alternatively, the “Expedition Vault” lets you safely carry over up to five items across different expeditions.
Bigger Squads & Smarter Pricing
Beyond massive content drops, the core gameplay mechanics are also evolving. Currently, the game strictly caps extraction squads at three players. However, Executive Producer Aleksander Grøndal recently confirmed the studio is actively testing larger team sizes. This experimental change could soon lead to chaotic five-player extraction runs or even massive PvE boss raids.
Finally, Embark is rolling out a much-needed regional pricing initiative. They are actively adjusting the game’s cost based on specific local markets rather than using standard, flat currency conversions. Ultimately, these calculated moves prove Embark is aggressively playing the long game to keep ARC Raiders on top of the charts.
