The Punjab government has decided to reinforce smart lockdown measures across the province from Tuesday, June 2, restoring business-hour restrictions that had been temporarily relaxed ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Under the renewed energy conservation and austerity measures, markets, shops, and shopping malls will once again be required to close at 8:00 pm, while hotels, restaurants, and food outlets will have to shut operations by 10:00 pm. However, takeaway and home delivery services will continue to remain available.
The decision comes after the expiry of a temporary exemption granted to traders, which remained in effect until June 1, 2026. During this period, businesses across the province were allowed to operate beyond the usual closing times to facilitate Eid-related shopping activities.
The Punjab government had announced the relaxation on May 16, suspending smart lockdown restrictions for shops, markets, shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, and food outlets across the province.
The original restrictions were introduced in April as part of broader efforts to reduce electricity consumption and implement austerity measures. With the temporary relief period ending, authorities have now directed businesses to resume compliance with the previously notified operating hours.
Officials say the move is aimed at supporting energy conservation efforts while maintaining economic activity through continued takeaway and delivery services.
