Punjab University has become the first public-sector university in Pakistan to introduce an AI-powered chatbot aimed at helping students and admission seekers access university-related information more efficiently.
The PU Admission Assistant Chatbot was officially launched by Prof. Dr. M. Ali during a ceremony attended by senior university officials, including members of the admission committee, faculty deans, and administrative staff.
Speaking at the inauguration, the vice chancellor praised the development team for creating the chatbot within a short period and described the initiative as a significant step toward improving student services through technology.
He emphasized that facilitating students remains a top priority for the university and directed authorities to expand the chatbot facility to other departments in the future.
During the briefing, Prof. Dr. Shahzad Sarwar explained that the chatbot was developed entirely using the university’s own resources. He added that the AI assistant is capable of providing guidance in English, Urdu, and Roman Urdu, making it accessible to a wider range of students.
The chatbot is expected to streamline the admission process by providing instant responses to common queries regarding admissions, academic programs, eligibility criteria, and university procedures.
