Vivo has revealed more details about the upcoming X Fold6 as the company moves closer to its expected launch later this month. After recently highlighting the foldable’s productivity features through OriginOS 6 Fold, Vivo has now confirmed the processor that will power the device.
In a post shared on Weibo, a Vivo executive announced that the X Fold6 will be the world’s first foldable smartphone to use MediaTek’s new Dimensity 9500 Super Edition chipset.
The company said it spent more than two years developing this customized processor. According to Vivo, the chipset was built specifically for foldable phones to improve multitasking, multi-window performance, and AI-powered features while maintaining better power efficiency.
Vivo claims the new chip delivers major improvements in AI performance. Peak AI computing power has increased by 111% compared to the previous-generation NPU. At the same time, power consumption has dropped by 56%.
The company also says the chipset improves several AI-related tasks. Offline voice transcription and speech recognition are reportedly 7% faster. Meanwhile, text generation speeds have improved by 57%.
In addition, vivo claims the Dimensity 9500 Super Edition offers up to a 20% increase in AI reasoning capabilities. As a result, AI appears to be a key focus for the upcoming foldable.
Several rumors have already revealed some of the device’s expected specifications. The Vivo X Fold6 is rumored to feature a large 6,900mAh battery and an 8-inch inner display. More details about the foldable smartphone are expected to emerge before its official debut later this month.
